Looks like Clarion is ready to jump into the iPod world with the release of a head unit that will have full iPod integration. Full support means a touch-screen seven-inch monitor that allows you to view and control playlist, song, and artist information all from the on-screen control. If you can read Japanese (or Google Translate it), then head (pun intended) over to Clarion’s web site and read up. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t torture you without at least one picture on the site. :)

Now the real question is will this be a hack job like Alpine’s iPod unit where it’s all kludgey to get around or is it like replicating your iPod screen and controls on this beautiful 7″ screen? Well, we get first peak of the VRX755VD this January at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and while we may not be able to touch, we certainly will be able to see.

Having been disappointed with Alpine’s first try at this iPod integration (I blog in detail about it later…it’s been on my Inbox for weeks now), I hope Clarion does a better job here. If their past performance is any indication of future holdings, I think they will do a great job. My only disappointment with Clarion is their support to Sirrus satellite. If they had XM, they’d have me as a customer. :)
