Hehehe. I’ve got to admit, this time the French did something to make me chuckle. Even though the vote is pure politics, it really doesn’t bother me because Hollywood is the one that gets burned on this deal.
The French Parliament has voted to legalize file swapping via the Internet. That means Metallica or its master puppeteer (like that pun?) , the RIAA, couldn’t sue companies out of business or single mothers of four barely making it in France. Nope, load up the Limewire or Kazaa for your tunes or grab a movie via BitTorrent. It’s all good in the land of cheese and wine now!
So how will Hollywood respond? I’m not sure. It sounds like this vote was a stunt of a political party anyway and it most likely will be over turned in some way. But if it isn’t, I’m sure Hollywood will send Lars Ulrich over to slap Jack Chirac in the face with a pair of white gloves. It’ll also probably stop exporting its smut to the French shores of Normandy and spare all the adults from hearing another Brittney Spears CD from teens boomboxes in the Metro again. Wow, what bliss. Maybe we should legalize file sharing!
