Looks like GM is falling it’s electronics division, Delphi, into bankruptcy court. The Detroit press is reporting that GM is near filing for financial protection which sent the General’s stock to a 13 year low. Note that number, folks.
I don’t think GM has done anything noteworthy in the last six to seven years. The just released Pontiac Soltice is the first thing they’ve done that is an encouraging sign but may be too little, too late. Look at the GTO. Joke. Look at the new Tahoe/Yukon/Esclade. Still relatively the same as it’s been the last ten years. Look at Chevy. Nothing of interest. Look at GMC. Just gas-guzzlers with no improvements. Caddy? Well, they are improved but mid-line is the bread-and-butter, GM.
Man, Bob Lutz has really ruined GM and it’s sad to see the largest automobile maker to go south. I think they really should have dumped Buick along with Old’s and revamped the Pontiac line with American built cars. The GTO should have been done right and it wasn’t. The Aztec should have never seen the light of day. The G6 should have not been allowed to be on Oprah (now forever labeled a chick-car.) The Grand Prix should have not relinquished it’s skin to the GTO for it’s eighth-generation release. Man, that’s just Pontiac, folks, I don’t even have time to go on about Chevy or GMC!
Maybe Bobbie-boy will wake up and do some listening to the general public. We’ve seen the power of blogs in the last two years and they may alter for the first time the auto industry, too. Me, I think GM needs to slim down more. Ditch Buick and rethink their foreign investments. DCX has bailed on Korea and maybe GM pick up those chunks since Hyundai has higher customer satisfaction ratings then most of GM’s product, combined. I’d also probably dump Saab back to the Norwegian’s and concentrate more on Opel. It’s been a good buy for GM since their World War II spoils and I would continue on a good thing.
I’m no auto-guru by any means, but man, I can see some of the big mistakes they’ve made like many other of you out there. Why didn’t GM?
